Conchita is determined to break her son’s engagement to Silvia, the daughter of the local brothel keeper. She therefore decides to hire the potent Raul – the local stallion, underwear model, ham seller and bullfighter – to separate Silvia from her lover. The plan seems successful, but Silvia is not the only one who is sensitive to the charms of the walking penis Raul. And Conchita’s son also turns out to be less neat than he seems at first glance.
In Bigas Luna’s film, all characters have only one urge: the sexual one. Everything is subordinated to it. It leads to wonderfully farcical developments in a film that gave the careers of Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem a strong boost.
