Aya grows up in an orphanage in the British countryside, unaware that her mother possessed magical powers. Her life changes drastically when a strange couple adopts her and she is forced to live with a selfish witch. As the stubborn Aya gradually unravels the secrets of her new guardians, she discovers a world of spells and potions, as well as a mysterious song that may be the key to finding the family she's always longed for.

Studio Ghibli's latest film (Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle) is based on Diana Wynne Jones' book Earwig and the Witch and is the Japanese animation studio's first full-length 3DCG film. Aya and the Witch was included in the Official Selection of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival.
